Melissa Hying
MS, CCC/SLP
Bio:
Melissa Hying, M.S., CCC-SLP, completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and received her master’s degree from Marquette University in 2012 with a Bilingual English-Spanish specialization. She is fluent in Spanish and basic American Sign Language (ASL) vocabulary. She furthered her signing skills while providing services to students ages 3-14 at Milwaukee Sign Language School. She then worked in an early childhood special education classroom in the Chicago area, collaborating closely with the occupational therapist, physical therapist, and teachers. Upon returning to Milwaukee, she continued to serve in an interdisciplinary team of therapists working directly with families in their homes through Milwaukee County Birth to Three. These experiences provided opportunities to work alongside and learn from other disciplines in order to support the whole child, which she brings to her current practice. In addition to bilingualism and hearing loss, areas of special interest include: Autism Spectrum Disorders and social skills, receptive and expressive language disorders, fluency, and feeding difficulties. In the past year she has sought out continuing education opportunities related to feeding and oral motor skills in order to best serve the growing number of feeding challenges our families face today.
Treatment Philosophy:
I believe the ability to counsel and connect with our patients and families is just as important as providing individualized intervention, education, and home programming. I enjoy engaging in conversation and collaboration with families each week not only to address target skills, but also to provide support for their pressing questions and concerns. The most rewarding part of my job is celebrating individual accomplishments, large and small, with families. For me, private practice combines the best elements from my previous experiences in that I am able to work hand in hand with families and patients to design personalized therapy to foster success. I am committed to continued learning and implementation of current best practices in order to meet the needs of those we serve.

What our families have to say about working with Melissa...
My 4 yr. old struggled severely with not being able to communicate. Now, A is a totally different person, we still have a long journey ahead, but Melissa is AWESOME and her knowledge and advice for A is stellar. I could not imagine our lives at this point without her. Melissa’s knowledge of so many spectrum related questions and concerns is what I most appreciate. I can comfortably ask ANYTHING and Melissa is able to assist me, she continues to go above and beyond involving my daughter. Even attending an offsite conference to assist the childcare staff with suggestions and answering questions.
